Recently, in a paper published in Physical Review Applied, a research team from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) studied the interfacial control of transport properties of perovskite oxide ferroelectric tunnel junctions (FTJs) and proposed a new scheme to achieve a giant tunneling electroresistance (TER) in FTJs.

It was discovered in 1828 by the Norwegian Reverend and amateur mineralogist Morten Thrane Esmark and identified by the Swedish chemist Jöns Jakob Berzelius, who named it after Thor, the Norse god of thunder.

A metallic radioactive transuranic element in the actinide series, it is the first element that currently cannot be produced in macroscopic quantities through neutron bombardment of lighter elements. It is the antepenultimate actinide and the ninth transuranic element.
